GAWLER CINEMA

and we are rolling….

The Gawler Cinemas has officially reopened!

Why would a church buy a cinema?

When we were looking for a permanent church home in Gawler, we came across the sale of the Gawler cinema. We fell in love with the building and the idea of keeping the cinema open for the community to still be able to see movies seemed like a challenge that was worth while taking on.

Running a cinema after covid is no easy task and certainly not a business venture to make a fortune but we believed with a team of volunteers we would be able to keep it running and open to the public. 1 year on, we still love it and so does our team of volunteers. Sure, its a bit different, it is now a not for profit community cinema and we love doing it.

The ever-popular Silver Screen sessions at 10 am with a 10:30 movie start time. These delightful sessions include not only morning tea but also a light lunch, making it a wonderful experience for all attendees. Of course, you are also welcome to come simply to enjoy the movie. Day sessions are now available four days a week, specifically on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. In addition to this, we are pleased to introduce something new: Friday Night at the Movies! November we are trialing opening fewer hours and closing at 4pm. We will have two Friday Nights at the Movies with a special event ‘COMA’ and the brand new ‘GLADIATOR II’.

For more detailed information, please visit the Gawler Cinema website, where you will find all the session times and listings for upcoming movies. Don’t forget to click on the tickets button for all session times available.

We have met so many people already as we set up the space and we look forward to hosting many more groups, individuals and families. We look forward to meeting you too.

It all started when…

We started searching for a home for our Gawler congregation. We looked at the Gawler Cinemas 5 years ago but the timing wasn’t right. Then this year, on the first day of our 21 days of prayer and fasting, the cinemas came back online for sale. We have been working on making this a viable option for us and for the Gawler community since then.

We have created a Recycled clothing store and a coffee shop to make the space more usable all week for the community.

It’s a win/win, we get to have a beautiful church home with comfy seats and we get to keep the cinemas alive as it’s part of Gawler’s past and as part of its future.
