Glorifying God at Easter: Planting Seeds of Praise

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" — Luke 2:14

Easter is more than a celebration of the empty tomb. It’s a glorious reminder that God’s love is unconditional, His sacrifice complete, and His glory eternal. As Christian parents, what a holy calling we have — to lead our children in glorifying God from their earliest days. Just as we mark Easter with eggs and chocolate, may we also mark it by pointing our children to the splendour of our Saviour.

God’s Glory: So Much Bigger Than We Can Imagine

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." — Psalm 19:1

From the colours of the sunrise to the melody of a bird’s song, the world is soaked in God’s glory. Yet His greatest glory was shown in the death and resurrection of His Son. At Easter, we remember the cross that bore our sins, and the tomb that couldn’t hold our King.

But how do we help our children truly see and respond to this glory? It begins in the small, everyday moments — in the stories we tell, the prayers we whisper, the truths we live.

The Call to Glorify God – From Childhood On

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." — Proverbs 22:6

It’s never too early to begin teaching our children to glorify God. Just as we teach them to say “please” and “thank you,” we can train their hearts to respond in worship, wonder, and gratitude toward their Creator.

Here are some age-appropriate ways to guide your children toward glorifying God this Easter:

Babies & Toddlers (0–3 Years): Touching Glory Through Senses

Theme: God made everything! God loves me!

Praise & Cuddle Time: While cuddling or gently rocking your child, introduce soft, joyful worship songs like “Jesus Loves Me”, “God Made Me” or He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”. You can also add simple hand motions to engage your little ones.

Nature Treasure Basket
Fill a basket with natural textures including leaves, flowers, bark, and smooth stones. Let your child explore while you say, “God made all of this! How amazing He is!” Go on a nature walk and point out God’s creation – flowers, leaves, clouds and say, “God made that! Isn’t He amazing?”

Easter Board Books: Read “The Story of Easter” by Patricia Pingry or other simple board books that show the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection in colourful, loving tones.

Even the littlest ones can learn to lift their hands in praise and clap with joy. Let worship be the language of your home.

Preschool & Early Primary (4–7 Years): Story, Symbol & Song

Theme: Jesus is alive! Let’s glorify Him!

Mini Resurrection Garden: Create a simple mini Easter Garden using a shallow dish, soil, grass seed, a small pot (tomb), and a stone (rolled away). Talk about the empty tomb and new life in Christ as they help water it each day.

God’s Glory Jar: Each day during Easter week, help your child to write or draw something that shows God’s glory — a butterfly, a kind act, an answered prayer, sunshine, forgiveness, someone sharing. Put the slips into a jar and reread them on Easter Sunday.

Act It Out: Role-play the Easter story using simple props such as scarves and pillows. Let them “be” the angel, the women at the tomb, or the disciples.

Easter Praise Art
Provide paints or crayons and encourage your child to draw something that shows how amazing Jesus is. Display their artwork as “Easter Praise Posters”.

“Let the little children come to Me,” said Jesus — because He knew their hearts were capable of wonder and worship.

Middle Childhood (8–12 Years): Digging Deeper

Theme: Living for God’s glory every day

At this stage, children can begin to grasp what it means to reflect His glory in how they live.

Daily Easter Devotions: Choose a kid-friendly devotional that walks through the Easter week with Scripture and reflection questions.

Easter Week Devotional Countdown
Create a paper chain with 7 links, each containing a Bible verse and a reflection question. Read one each day leading up to Easter.

Glory Hunt Challenge: Challenge your child to “hunt” for God’s glory each day — in acts of kindness, beauty in creation, or Bible truths. Give them a “Glory Hunt Sheet” with prompts like:

  • Something beautiful God made

    1. A way someone showed kindness

    2. A truth about Jesus from the Bible
Let them draw or journal their findings and share at dinner.

Easter Blessing Bake-Off: Bake biscuits or create Easter cards to deliver to family, friends and neighbours with a Bible verse attached. Glorify God through love in action.

Prayer Pennants
Create paper triangles and decorate with Easter prayers or praises. String them together as a “Praise Bunting” for your home.

“Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31.

Teens: Owning Their Faith

Theme: Jesus gave everything – how can I live for His glory?

Teens long for purpose. Let Easter remind them they were created to glorify a risen King.

Faith Journals: Encourage journaling over the Easter period — writing prayers, reflections on the cross, or thoughts on Jesus’ sacrifice.

Faith Journal Prompts:
Create a week’s worth of prompts such as:

  • What does the cross mean to me today?

    1. How can I glorify God in my relationships?

    2. When have I experienced God’s unconditional love?

Worship Playlist Creation
Invite your teen to create an Easter worship playlist for the family. Let them share a song each night and talk about what it means to them.

Family Prayer Night: Invite your teen to help lead the prayers. Let them choose worship songs or read a Scripture.

Acts of Love Easter Challenge
Create a “12 Acts of Love” list to do as a family (serving others, praying for someone, writing encouragement cards, etc.). Tick them off throughout the Easter season.

Capture His Glory Photo Project
Challenge your teens to take photos during the week that represent God’s glory — in nature, people, Scripture, or moments. Create a slideshow or a printed collage.

Remembering the Cross, Reflecting His Glory

"We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." — John 1:14

As Easter approaches, may we not miss the opportunity to point our children to the radiance of Christ, teaching them to glorify the risen King. While the world turns to bunnies and baskets, we turn our eyes to the Lamb who was slain and now lives. He is glorious. He is worthy. He is risen.

Let every chocolate egg, every sunrise service, every whispered prayer over your child’s bed be a sacrifice of praise.

And may your home be filled with echoes of glory — from the babble of toddlers to the questions of teens — all glorifying the One who gave everything for us.

“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendour of His holiness.” — Psalm 29:2
